MURATPAŞA TARİHÇESİ   

Kentin en eski yerleşim yeri olması nedeniyle Muratpaşa’nın tarihi aynı zamanda Antalya’nın da tarihidir. Muratpaşa adını, yapım tarihi 1570 olan Muratpaşa Camii’ne de adını veren Karaman Beyi Murat Paşa’dan almaktadır. Bergama Kralı Attalos'un; ‘Bana bir yeryüzü cenneti bulun’ sözüyle İ.Ö 2. yüzyılda kurulan kent kurucusundan dolayı ‘Attaleia’ adı ile anılmış ve sırasıyla Roma, Bizans, Selçuklu, Osmanlı egemenliğinde kalmıştır. Arap kaynaklarında ‘Antaliye’, Türk kaynaklarında ‘Adalya’ olarak anılan kent 20. Yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinden itibaren Antalya olarak adlandırılmıştır. Antalya; Birinci Dünya Savaşı sonrası 28 Mart 1919’da İtalya tarafından işgal edilir. İşgal 5 Temmuz 1921’de sonlandırılır. 29 Ekim 1923'te Cumhuriyet’in ilanından sonra Osmanlı döneminde sancak olan Antalya il olur. Büyük Önder Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün 8 Mart 1930’da kente yaptığı ziyaret sırasında söylediği ‘Hiç şüphesiz ki Antalya, dünyanın en güzel yeridir’ sözü Antalya’yı anlatan en güzel ifadedir. Mülki alanı 92 kilometrekare olan Muratpaşa 8 bin 804 hektarlık alana sahiptir. 20 kilometre sahil kıyı bandı bulunan Muratpaşa’ nın güneyinde Akdeniz, kuzeyinde Kepez ilçesi, batısında Konyaaltı, doğusunda da Aksu yer almaktadır. Muratpaşa’ nın 2012 yılı TÜİK verilerine göre nüfusu 443 bindir.
